I've got an interview at a primary school on Friday morning. The job involves working with a Year 4 child with a Statement of Special Educational Needs.
I don't know how I got an interview! The advert stated that interested applicants will need experience of working with children exhibiting challenging behaviour. The only experience I have is volunteering in my old primary school for one day a week since May, where I basically just listen to children read etc... I'm really nervous that I won't be able to demonstrate my suitability for the job, and I'm worried cos I don't know anything about SEN...
Any tips?
Thanks!

can you find out any more about the childs difficulties before the interview and can you ask the school for a copy of thier behaviour and SEN policies as well to have a look. If not then its always a good idea to refer to policies during the interview, ie, if a questions is asked about how you would deal with a situation you could say that you would act in conjunction with the behaviour policy etc

have you had a look around the school yet, if not then it may be a good idea to ask if you can, not only will this show the HT you are enthusiastic but would also give you lots of information that would be useful during the interview

Good Luck!!

As Summer said, try and get your hands on behaviour policy, this is always a good starting point.

Also think of some positive strategies you can use to the help the child, eg a target chart that the child can mark either daily or each lesson on how they have behaved.

Hope the interview goes well.
