Lovely Rose and so true.

Any behavioural issues including bullying are dealt with in the form of steps and behaviour charts. The step system are stratigies that control unnaceptable behviour. For example Step 1 would be to give the pupil time out and the fianl step would be Exclusion which would only be used in extreme cases.

We have participated in Anti-Bullying week with themed assemblies and circle times.

I must say though we don't really have too many problems in school with bullying. It's quickly sorted if anything arises.

whosrose I love that poem.

I was slightly bullied at school - more isolated events and things I left myself open to (I can see with retrospect) as I was so shy, quiet and niave(sp?)

Also not bullying as such but I have also had to put up with a life time of being a redhead and the people who just think it is their obligation to make various comments - not often complimentary or polite - about said hair! That's why I love the recent Catherine Tate sketches on "gingers"

I think reverse psychology should be used with bullying in comedy to make them see how pathetic/needy they really are and to give strength to the victims.

It makes me smile now to hear adverts using "sticks and stones ..." proverb and the child saying "they do hurt" That was me and my mum. I would go home and tell her (some of the ) things I had been called and she would always chant that to me and I would think swear it does hurt

I would like to send a big hug out to all those who have been bullied. Lets try to put a stop to it.

I agree name calling is just as bad and sometimes a lot worse. It can get into your soul and is much much harder to shake off than a quick kick! I was bullied all through my primary years and due to that and a very unsettled childhood (hence some of the bullying) I still, at 45, find it very hard to make friends and get close to people. I think I let friendships slip because it is ingrained in me that people don't really want to be my friend. When you think that mine was over 30 years ago it shows how lasting the effects can be.

Lets hope that the authoritites are not just paying lip service to this and do deal with.

oops went on a bit there

aww hug yeh words are definetly worse. i think if it had been more physical bullying it would have been stopped easier as well its easier to prove you have been attacked and its slightly easier to shake off than words, but then physical bullying can be really bad - just depends on the situation. words can hit you right were it hurts and its hard to prove that someone did actually say it as there is no physical evidence.

Sorry that wasn't very clear. I was bullied verbally and physically but in those days the teachers really did side with the kids from the 'nice' families........... those of us with jumble sale clothes and uncaring parents didn't stand a chance.

Times have changed for the better in that way formost schools and I honestly think it's one major advantage to having us support staff these days, we care and do make a difference.

If there is a problem in school with bullying both parties are sent to the head or deputy and sanctions imposed on the perpetrator no matter what. If the problem seems to be a bit deeper rooted, or they have concerns the perpetrator can be referred onto me as the Learning Mentor to discuss further the issue.

The victim also access to myself for an immediate chat, as well as to discuss what to do next time etc.

I also monitor the situation over the short term, as well as their class teachers.

I love the poem it is so true.

Bullying in our school according to the HT does not happen Rolling Eyes

I say yeah right!

It'sjust as well the teachers handle it on their own.

Sorry to be bumping this old post back up - not Twisted Evil

I love the way my daughter's school deal with incidents. The innitial response is for those involved in an incident to write down in their own words what happened. This is done as quickly as possible and the children are seperated to different tables or rooms so there is no conferring. This includes those involved and those who are witnesses.

The school finds this a very effective way of finding out what has actually happened quickly. They also acknowledge it has helped some students who would have been in a lot of trouble because things which come out would not normally have done so in more traditional approaches.

It also allows victims to deal with their emotions and often other things which are going on which the school were not aware of.

My daughter was recently assaulted in school - as it was a physical attack I refuse to call it bullying - and wrote down what happened and other things which have been happening at home.

Although we have not had feedback from the school yet she is happy that it is being dealt with.

In my experience this is unusual, but would like to know if others use this method.

Our primary always talks to the children individually (writing it down at this age is pointless!) and then tries to get each/all to take account of the others feelings. We don't really have buulying though more falling outs.

Your daughters school seems have a really good system in place, especially if she feels that the incident will be dealt with

Oh by the way, welcome back!

the secondary where i worked used the writing down method, with a sheet of questions if the pupils needed it
