Precision Teaching is a strategy which enables children to learn through focusing on achievable targets. The learning takes place in small steps in an intensive daily practice. The LSA"s role as mediator enables the learning to take place. In a one-to-one situation, she works hard to build a close relationship with the learner. The learning is always perceived as positive and the learner is not made to feel inadequate. The benefits of Precision Teaching are seen in the form of a progress chart, where the learner is also able to see the mapping of rapid progress in a pictorial form. In this way the learner develops confidence in their own ability, which in turn builds self-esteem. The learner is then keen to attempt a new target and so the process is self-fulfilling

Start each session with a 1 minute probe test (I do my own probes ie number bonds to 10 or times tables), they then do as many in this time as they can. You then plot it on the chart and hopefully watch them get better. Rest of session you actually wither teach them by repetition, playing games etc.
It is designed to highlight small steps of progress, but if its not working after a decent time dont be afraid to alter the probe etc.
This explains it better than I can, apparently I will decide what the targets are eg. medial phoneme a on cvc words and they are given 5 different words repeated randomly 10 times. You count the number read correctly and the number of errors so the top line of the graph is correct answers in 1 minute and should slope up at 30 degrees and the bottom line number of errors which should decrease and the child should record the results themselves with help.
