One of my modules for January is Supporting Numeracy. Not my strongest subject so am trying to get ahead and find some ideas and resources ready for when the task is introduced. I have a child in mind and need to look at year 2 addition and subtraction. Have been looking for hours but do not want worksheets, just ideas that I can make my own and run with. Am totally stuck and having crises after crises at the mo. Have already looked on the useful links section so must be really stupid to still be stuck. Help anyone?

well i have never worked in yr 2, but can you make a simple board game, backed up with a computer prog/game and some worksheets, and also relate it to real life somehow, such as adding toys or books/friends in the classroom

When in year 2 we did a lot of our maths as everyday problems. Shops, buying (addition) receiving change (subtraction) and buying multiples (division/times).
The clock could use the schoolday. When I get up at ? how long till school/lunch/play.... since I arrived /ate breakfast etc does that make sense?

Thanks for the ideas, I think the problem is that as I work in 3 classes and mostly in 3/4 and do groups as well I miss out on most of the numeracy so don't know what they are doing. It is def the best class to use for the assignment tho as the teacher is so supportive she will timetable me to work 1 to 1 with the child for a term so that I can get the work done. Fits in well with assessments in May as the particular pupil is struggling with numeracy and so is a target child.

Get hold of her long term planning and take it from there. Lots of visuals, short bursts of activity, even little things like using an oversized dice will keep attention focussed. Good luck.
