Can depends where you work! I have been called both doing the same job. Generally in my authority if you are a TA you assist the class teacher with individual or group work and carry out general duties such as displays, admin preparation etc. Anything to keep the class running smoothly.

LSAs (learning support) tend to be given specific children or groups to work with. Most 1:1 tend to be classed as LSAs. Not sure it's the same everywhere though.

So would it be a different course?
Or you title just changes depending on specific work you do?

same course, different role. It's the same here as already metioned, TA's are class based with one teacher and LSA's do the intervention work with specific children.
Some schools like to give the title LSA to those who support special needs (some are called special support assistants in special needs schools) It is all the same job, ie working under a teacher, just different titles.

I worked in one school where that job was known as an SNA, whereas the ones working in the general classroom were LSAs (and I did a bit of both, so not quite sure what that made me!) By that school's terminology I would be an SNA now, but where I am now, we're all TAs, except the HLTAs, of course.

I used to be a SSA - Special Support Assistant - when I was employed to work with just one child. We are now all TAs and do a mixture of working with individuals, groups and general support in the classroom.
