What do you think about the SATS numeracy this year. It seemed to me to go from the relative easy (although the group I work with found it beyond them) to the difficult. There did not seem to be much middle gournd. Am I looking at it from the Special Needs angle or did anyone else think this as well. |

i thought that they didn't balance the papers very well. Alot of our more able children finished the first paper with a good 15 minutes to spare. And the 2nd paper similarly thought with less time at the end.
I dont think both papers were as difficult as in previous years.

do you mean ks2? I thought there were some questions that were really poorly written and even I had to think twice about what it was actually asking me. From memory i beleive it was the first question on paper one. Not the easiest of starts. |

I did mean key stage 2 but i was interested in the answer to chaaapmo as i look after the year 3 children who also get low scores in the key stage i paper. I feel that there are not enough questions for the lower ability children who lose the will to go on withing the 5 minutes of the start. I know children are meant to get level 4 at key stage 2 but i think there are many children out there who will not get to that level and those are the ones i feel for. all the year we give them the help they need and work at more of a level for them throughout the year and although we are allowed to read the question as many times as the children require it and we can put emphasise on the words that have been highlighted we are not allowed to help them any more. there should be an intermediate paper so these children can leave primary school with a proper level. |

My colleagues and I also thought the questions were poorly constructed and very wordy. paper 2 also really didn't, barely, warranted the calculator but that just seemed more confusing.
I had a SEN/school action plus group however and they did their best, they came away from it quite calm and happy having got up to about question 20. No stress - which was perfect. They probably didn't actually do that well but they had a go and felt that they could do it which is half the battle. |

Mixed responses from our staff, some thought it was too easy and others hard. I though paper b had a few trick questions that I saw the kids getting wrong. |
