Hi there,
I've just started the NVQ3 having completed level 2 also and am really keen to do the Foundatin degree next September. I aim to finish the NVQ asap but I do already have GCSEs in Maths, English, Science as well as 3 A levels.
What I'm just wanting to know is when do you have to apply for the FD? I'm not 100% certain I'll be able to do it-mostly money worries holding me back, will I get help paying which I'm not sure about.

Many thanks,
MS

If you are considering the OU you are eligible for financial assistance if you are earning up to £35000 (I think). That can either be a full or a partial grant. If you are not eligible for a grant you can arrange to pay in instalments by opening a Student Budget Account with the OU.

Hope that helps - good luck. Very Happy

HI Millyscarlet,

You sound in a similar position to me a couple of years ago. I had similar qualifications to you GCSE's and A levels and they accepted me straight on to the FD in learning support without me having to do any NVQ's.
Am just at the start of my second year and i def don't feel at a disadvantage because i didn't do the NVQ like many of the others on my course. Working in a school and having real examples is what really has helped me on the FD.

I didn't apply for the FD until the July and then started in the September. I don't know what it is like in your area but where i am the course def isn't over subscribed.

The first year on my course was also funded by my LEA so that helped a lot! Might be wrth asking your school/LEA about it.
Also might be worth looking into student loans.
Also look around at colleges, a few in my area offered the course but the one i ended up at does it as an evening class which has allowed me to keep all of my hours at work.

It is hard work managing it all, but it is really interesting and definately worth while. Needs commitment but i love it.
