Gosh, it seems like all my posts are in here!!

Can someone give me some advice on what to do about this...

Child 'A' was running around in tidy up time yesterday (playgroup for 2 and half yr olds)
He was given no warning , the member of staff shouted his name (loudly!) grabbed his arm, stuck him on a chair to face the wall.....

'A' does like to run around, well i say run around.....i stood back in one session and he was actually playing racing cars....
we don't get outside enough, even when i ask it just doesn't happen....today's session was wasted by the other 2 staff members sitting cutting out ducks for easter cards!

i only work one session ( its open 3 days a week)

the behaviour policy states a child is first withdrawn from an activity , and an adult will talk to the child...
it also mentions a 'cooling off' period, and providing another activity if there is no change...
and also speaking to parent/guardian etc etc.....

I've already spoken to the foundation manager about other concerns i have with a particular member of staff (the manager!)
staff are making all the children's cards and art work , and she has a real problem with one little girl who is quite shy..
Yesterday, when taking the register , she called her name .....and then said 'well i won't get a reply out of her anyway'.......
these little one are just 2 and half, and for most , its the 1st time they've been away from home ......

I just wanted to cry after that session, only now i feel like i'm always complaining and causing trouble..
the unit manager said she was aware that things weren't being run well, but changes were happening soon....
i just feel like the new girl causing trouble!

but i can't just ignore this , surely?

sorry to always be moaning
thanks

astonvilla75 I just read your post and it sounds unbelievable how badly this place is being run!

They dont follow the behaviour policy, they put children down-no wonder the poor girl wont speak if remarks like that are made, not great for the childs self esteem! And making the childrens cards, whats that all about?

It must be difficult being the newbie, but you did the right thing when you complained, and this comment : "unit manager said she was aware that things weren't being run well, but changes were happening soon" Why soon? Why not TODAY!
Im sorry but it makes my blood boil how can she let it continue if she knows what is going on?

Im sure you will make a difference to the children in this establishment The only positive aspect of this place is YOU, the only person who gives a toss about the children by the sound of it! It doesn't sound like anyone else who works their is stimulating them in anyway.

Anyway I hope it gets sorted soon.

You are right to be concerned. Dreadful way to treat any child let alone a toddler. Even our 6-7 year olds are given request (to stop) a warning of what sanctions there will be before any action is taken.... even then we sometimes resort to a count down first. After all these are children who need to be taught:roll:

As for the register incident that is just out and out rude! The child will not open up being treated like that.

Unfortunately, if it is the manager acting so unprofessionally I not sure what you can do apart from keep raising the issues with the foundation manager. Perhaps a hint that an observation may not go amiss.
