I've spent this weekend on a course making plaited baskets from recycled materials. I made 2 from newspaper to try the techniques, then started one from the clothes line off the broken whirly gig and some rope from the beach - hmm, not sure I'll do that one again! Last night I made a couple from catalogues. Today I finished the clothes line one - eventually (going to put beach pebbles in it in the garden) and made a small bag from some matting found on the beach and started a waste paper basket from card and packaging strips. The only new materials I used were staples to hold things in place.

The instructor made it look easy - my son made a newspaper one tonight - and tomorrow I get to do it all over again at school - just been practicing a border I had already forgotten it!

The finished waste paper basket, now residing in Edinburgh with my son - it is waste cardboard packaging, packaging tape and the top is bound with old video tape:

and the baskets made by the children at school - it's amazing how you give the same materials and instructions to a group of children and you get such different results!

JD I don't know how I've come to miss this thread. Sad

Those baskets are fantastic. The clothes line basket is my personal favourite. If it was mine I would line it with moss and use it as a planter. Very Happy
