baking were they put in an ingredient each etc.Circle time games there was some for team work to do with getting from one side of the room to anothe (islands across the sea) with newspaper. Another one was having so many pieces of newspaper out and as you took one away you also increased the numbers in the group they had to co-operate to stay on the paper or they were all out.

One game we use with our 14 - 16 year olds is the shark infested waters.
Objective is to turn the mat/rug over without anyone stepping off.

Have a rug or similar with different patterns on either side.

Lay it on floor.

Team all stand on mat.

Turn mat/rug over without anyone stepping off. Leaning on each other is allowed. No lifting i.e. piggybacks allowed.

It can be done, causes much laughter, but most of all can only be done if they communicate with each other and work together.

Have fun.

I've just done a team building exercise with a class of year 6 whilst covering for PPA.

The task was to work in small groups from 2-4 to design a five star hotel for 11 year olds. [could be any age though]

This was done with drawings only not models[ brain storming first then each taking a room and designing it on paper]

things they had to think about first was problem solving in team work.
How would they work equal as a team? with everyone in the team contributing

What could they do if one person was taking over the task?

Then they had to cooperatively think of a name for the hotel,

be creative in thinking what the foyer would look like

[we've had, a grassed floor/ a floor full of fish covered in see through flooring, candy floss trees etc.....

they also had to find a novel way of getting from the foyer to the bed room [only thing they couldn't use was the idea of clicking their fingers and arriving in the bedroom] so we've had machines/ water slides/ ghost trains .......

Then they had to design a bedroom and discuss what sort of facilities would be available.

This has been ongoing for three afternoons over three weeks and tomorrow they will present their ideas to others.

In a small group you could video the talk and play it back another time.

We will also discuss how they solved problems in the group and what they think worked in their groups.
