I have an interview on Monday for a level 3 teaching assistant job. The selection process involves an observation exercise and depending on this, candidates then attend an interview.

I must admit to being terrified! What tasks would be expected during an observation exercise. Are we supposed to observe children and provide feedback or are the interview panel observing us and how we complete a task.

I feel as if I am on "The Apprentice".

Please help.

I'm sure they'll have all that organised.

Just forget they are there & just carry on as if you would as if you were already working on.

All the best

I think you will be observed working with some children.I'm sure it will be one person observing not the whole panel. It might be something simple like reading a story to a group or an activity.Try to concentrate on the children and you will forget the person is there like Lucybelle said.Good Luck.

Thanks for your reassurances. I work in a secondary school and this interview is also in secondary education. I think it is really difficult to cover all eventualities and scenarios.

Reckon it may be an activity which needs differentiation or maybe supporting pupils working on the computer.

Think the only thing which will let me down is lack of confidence - or a heart attack!!! Must try to be cool Cool

Good luck Cardmaker, you will be fine . I had interview today which included classroom session , although yr 2 class not secondary The class knew who was in my group and what they were doing it was easy and just meant me talking to the children. Not the terrifying ordeal you think it is ( I was panicking , believe me) Just be yourself and dont worry about being watched . Smile
