Well I have spent the last weekend crying over this book, with laughter that is. It may now be out of print because my Mum found it in a charity shop on holiday. It is about a school inspector (forrunner to OFSTED I assume) and some of the things that happen during his work. For instance the nativity plays where one cherub (playing Mary) doesn't like the name Jesus and asks the angel Garbriel if she can call him Gavin! Also Herod telling the the Kings to " move those camels you cant leave them here," and "clear off!!" Or the little boy who, during a lesson on tenses applies the same logic to wink as sink, ie Today I sink, Tommorow I will sink Yesterday I sank. Today I wink Tommorow I will wink Yesterday I.. !! Definately unputdownable.

I love his books. He has a lovely way of telling the stories - you are in the classroom with him. He read one of his books on Radio 4 a couple of years ago and his voice is just as I imagined it. Now as I read I can 'hear' him recounting his tales.
I bought his latest, The Heart of the Dales, in Tesco yesterday and it is as good as his others. It's been out a while in hardback but only just seen the paperback.
Just txted a teacher friend i used to work with. I had a feeling she had these books very her kinda thing too. Anyway im going for a meal with her tonight for her bday and shes going to lend me 3 of the books
