How giant is giant?

Get dry ice and place it with the ice cube in a container.

One of the traditional methods for preserving ice was to pack it in sawdust. You could try wrapping the cube in bubble wrap which should act as an insulator.

leave it in the freezer Wink

put it in a bucket and put the bucket in a sink full of cold water.

If you make the icecube yourself boil the water, that with get all the air bubbles out of it.

make sure that anything you use to insulate the cube with is cold.

Pack it in straw (good insulator)- that's what they used in "Ice Houses" in the past

Build a metal box (yes I know, good conductor... but wait 2 secs)... insert ice cube, surround with water. Seal box. Attach two or three low voltage TECs (cold side to the box)... should work a treat Smile

In case you're wondering about a TEC... one for a computer here...

Build yourself some sort of phase change (condensation / evaporation) cooler along the lines of a domestic fridge.

I've just remembered that when i did this in a year 4 class. i think silver foil kept the ice cube pretty solid. it kept the cold air in and the hot air out.
