Just want to know, do any TAs who run nurture groups get extra pay for doing so. Really cross at the moment. Had my performance management interview today and asked to be put up a pay scale as i do all my own planning and assesment and run NG four afternoons a week on my own. I have the most challenging kids in the school most of whom do not need nurture, they need proper behaviour plans and i dont get any planning time. The school is in special measures so we are inspected by the world and his dog on a very regular cycle and pastoral care is one of our strengths. Am on the point of going to HT and telling her i don't want to do nurture any more will go back to being like some of the other TAs, never doing any thing over and above, arriving at school two minutes before start time and leaving on the dot of going home time.
Sorry rant over. Had to get that off my chest. Just feel really undervalued.
Dont even know if i should have posted here or on problems or moans ang groans perhaps all three!!!!!!!

I felt just like you under our old head, her attitude was the NG can run as long as it doesn't cost me anything Evil or Very Mad

In my opinion if you are planning and implementing the NG then you should be on at least level 3

you might want to also tell your HT that nurture groups should be 2 by adults (something you could easily get judith, carol or nancy to back you up on) so you are saving the school shed loads by agreeing to do it on your own

do you do boxalls on all the children, you could use them to show that the children aren't nurture kids but behaviour management kids.

Hi

Sorry to say this but the person who runs our Nurture group has had her title changed and she is now a Senior Teaching Assistant, she is on scale/level 5/6, which if you have a job description for this, this is what it should be. She does everything and also has a Teaching assistant with her as well.

I am applying for a post in another school, which is Senior Teaching Assistant, 37 hours, scale/level 5, starts at £18,450 - £20,235.

Also where I am, if you do additional stuff, which is not on your job description, then you get points awarded. Each one is worth so many points. Many head wont tell you this. I went through the union with mine.

So yes by law you should be on that, I have worked in a school under SP and you even get extra funding, I would contact HR and ask them for a job evaluation sheet, you fill this in and send it back to them, they review it and change it accordingly. If not, get your unions in, if you don't fancy that route, then its either get on with it or give up the post and go back into a classroom for the same pay.

I have been here too many times and in the end I left the school after 12 years. I am worth my pay, I start at 7.30am my choice, I leave around 5.00pm, I also go into school at half terms and I also bring work home with me. My ex boss realises what he has lost, but afraid its too late for that.

Good luck either way, I know its hard, but you have to fight for what you want and for what you are worth.

Very Happy

I actually assumed everyone no matter where you were had the same job descriptions and the pay against these was the same.

I am learning that this is not the case.

We have been through single status and oh what joy that was, we were all worse off, none of used moved up the pay scale, most stayed the same, and some did go down the pay scale.

Where I am, we have a site which is for all people who work in this Education area, on this site which I am on about, it has job descriptions, pay scales, points scales, etc, policies on all things. I naturally assumed everyone had this who worked for education.

This forum is full of information, which is a great learning curve.

Just caught up on this. Have now got L3 TA however the pay doesnt start till Sept 08 but will be backdated. All other TAs will also be L3 one is not even qualified..............how does that work? All this messing about has done one thing though, I now have loads more time at home. I dont go in more than 5 minutes before start time and i finish on time every night. There is a disco for the kids on Friday night, guess who is not helping! I dont take any work home with me anymore, if it doesnt get done in school time it doesnt get done at all. This has caused many raised eyebrows but the CTs that i work with are right behind me, they are both lovely. Two of the other TAs are doing the same as me and the other three have always done this anyway!!! HT asked me for some paperwork a couple of weeks ago and i told her i hadnt had time to do it, she wasnt happy but i explained that i dont have planning time and obviously i couldnt do it during lesson time so perhaps she could suggest a time i could do it. I really hate being like this and it really isnt me but i feel my good nature has been taken advantage of for too long now.
I am looking for another job but there isnt much about at the moment and i will not just settle for anything.
Sorry have gone on a bit.
