Does anyone work with a child/children who has this. We have a child in our class who has it (has a coloured overlay) and was wondering if there was any useful tips anyone has?
I photocopy worksheets onto coloured paper bur wondered if there was more I could be doing?

I also work with a child that uses overlays - although this was only put into place when I started to work with him - he used ot have all things photocopied on blue paper - then as the child wore glasses - i suggested to his mum, that the next time he goes to the opticians - could he get tinted lenses - they did this - and this has been a life saver for him - his work has improved no end!
In the short term, you could photocopy all things in colour - we also made our own 'blue'board by laminating 2 sheets of blue paper - and used this to copy all the things off the whiteboard for him, also we made our own overlays - by cutting coloured cellophane (very tricky..lol) and then laminating - works the same as overlays at a fraction of the cost.
Hope this helps

I Year 3 we test all the children in the lower ability level with coloured overlays. Some actually do need them, some need them for a while as a crutch and give them up in their own time, and some like them because they see others using them!
It really helps them though, and makes an incredible difference.
We also photocopy on to the relevent coloured paper for those children.

Thanks for the replies!
We have several children in each class who use overlays, we test anyone and everyone! All have different colours so the whiteboard thing is a bit tricky- lots of childrens opinions as to what colour they think it should be. One thing we have discovered is that it isn't just the lower ability groups who have benefited. We have had several surprises with our higher ability children who are extremely able/ above average readers who now have overlays. The tale-tale signs were watering eyes, headaches and the need to follow words with a ruler or bookmark.

My main frustration is the lack of further info available!
