I don't know about anyone else but I get spam that has blatantly got my e-mail address from this forum. Needless to say I don't open any of it and I don't give my real name on the forum but surely we shouldn't be getting spam as a result of posting on the forum. Interestingly I was able to recognise these spams very easily as they seemed to have the same sender name but now I note after a long period of inactivity on the forum and then starting up again this week a further name has turned up. This could discourage me from using the forum.

i get lots of spam since the new hotmail/messenger was downloaded but a lot of it goes to the junk folder and the other emails i get dont download completely unless i click to say they are safe

it might be worth changing to a different account for purely forums and other things you sign up to Pinklepurr

also check your spam filter on your security software, i have one on my settings

i dont think extra spam in my email is the result of my activity on the this forum, but just from surfing the net and buying items online

has anyone else had problems? I will have a check to night on the support forum to see if anyone else is having problems on other forums

maybe the more experienced members will have other ieas for you

it may be the security settings

also mark any unwanted mail as spam Pinklepurr so it will go straight into your junk folder

I so very rarely get any spam that when I do it's a novelty. Rolling Eyes

Check your e-mail and spam settings, check your Internet security settings. I use Norton which has a free add on for spam control. I have several e-mail addresses. I use one for friends and family, one when I'm buying anything on line. Another I use when I'm wanting info from web sites and those I check through first to see if they sell on e-mail addresses if I can.

With a very few minutes check I found that you had posted your e-mail address openly within a post on another site. Spambots Evil or Very Mad actively go search for addresses that are posted openly. This is something we've mentioned before and actively discourage people from doing. If we notice it on this forum we'll delete the address and pm the member. Smile

If taking better preventative measures doesn't help with your current e-mail address, I would suggest you change it and with better security hopefully you should find a big reduction in spam. Let us know how you get on. Very Happy

Spam emails most certainly wont come through the foum unless you either post your email address openly (in which case moderators will remove it) or secondly if you change your settings to allow your email address to be viewed by any member of the forum, in which case admin will change it back.

I have puposely set the forum board to automatically hide email addys to stop this happening so I can assure you it isnt comeing from here

I have not had any spam but like tiki said you need to hide your email or use another address that isnt your main account (thats what I do due to undertaking surveys)

rofl rofl I have hubby who randomly clicks too!! I have never had any spam as a result of being aprt of this forum. I do not use my main email address admittedly but an email that I know will not matter if I get spam. I went through a bored phase (in between study - oh the luxury) when I entered lots of on-line competitions (never won) and set up an email address for that; this is the addy I use for here for confidentiality.

Wouls like to add, this is a great forum Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I use a hotmail address related to my user name for this and other forums, as well as for entering competitions online, and get very few spam emails, maybe 1-2 a month, so I think it's very unfair to say that your spam emails are entirely due to this forum, especially as many other members have reported that they too have experienced no problems Confused

I'm sorry, but I think my 'spam' message has been a little misunderstood. I'm not complaining about my quantity of spam or wondering how to deal with spam but thought the forum should be concerned that spam IS being sent as a result of this forum. The reason I am so sure is that these particular spams are contain TA in the subject AND a new one i.e. with a different sender name, started after a renewed use of the forum. There aren't loads and loads but they are identifiable as connected somehow with this forum. If nobody else is getting these it's either because you all filter your spam or I'm special? Confused I gave up filtering my spam because it was filtering mail I didn't want to lose and still spam was getting through so I ended up seeing more spam than I do now!

Interesting that you found my e-mail on a different site. I wonder which one? If it is on a private profile (such as we have on this forum) is it also available to these ne'er do wells? Evil or Very Mad

I'll pm you the link. As I said I found it very quickly without a lot of effort.

I think you'll find that the spam hasn't anything to do with us. I won't say on an open forum how I found your other post but you had posted it on an open forum I didn't bother going to look at the profile as I was short of time you also asked people to e-mail you. I also found part of your e-mail address in posts that include TA on reading a couple of them the TA stood for thankyou (ta). These had no connection to you that I could see but by association it would have been picked up by bots and you'll find all sorts of things included in the subject matter of the e-mail on the off chance you might open it. Never click the unsubscribe button on these e-mails just delete them.

If any other members feels that they are getting spam mail because they've joined this forum please would you let us know.

edit I've had another look at the post I found. I noticed that, what I presume is your correct name was used and the initials on that were TA followed by your surname. part of your surname is also used as part of your e-mail address.
